The goals of the People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD) are to give people the capacities to make something extraordinary out of their lives in the Netherlands. The party was founded in January 1948 out of different political parties. VVD is a liberal party that values individual freedom, both in a mental and material sense, as its greatest asset. Other liberal principles emanate from freedom and responsibility: equality, tolerance and social justice. VVD is optimistic about the future and the opportunities for the next generation and continues to aim for a safer, free and prosperous future for The Netherlands.

Democrats 66 is a progressive liberal party founded in 1966 with the purpose of revitalizing and renewing Dutch democracy. Its outright rejection of political ideology marked the birth of the first program-based, pragmatic political party in Dutch politics. D66’s guiding principles include defending freedom of conscience, striving for the greatest possible individual freedom based on equal opportunity, furthering clear and consequential politics, encouraging sustainable economic growth for the benefit of all citizens, and completing the political and economic integration of the peoples and countries of Europe.
